I think that life can be improved, but not without violence. I think non-violent philosophies more than anything fortify the monopoly the state has on violence, which can't be a good thing, in addition to putting activists like Rachel Corrie in harms way. It's why criminals like Obama love Gandhi and Christ so much.

Non-violence is for suckers.Oh Tarzienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9339045.post-17327019951862913242011-08-07T20:24:24.707-07:002011-08-07T20:24:24.707-07:00Also known as a deportationAlso known as a deportationjcapannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9339045.post-6527665674776549982011-08-07T20:22:44.352-07:002011-08-07T20:22:44.352-07:00Did my freshman research paper on Berkman & Go...Did my freshman research paper on Berkman & Goldman's deporation, so I have trememendous respect for him and this passage in particular. Sadly, some 20 years later, I tilt towards this view as the more realistic:

“There’s no such thing as life without bloodshed. I think the notion that the species can be improved in some way, that everyone could live in harmony, is a really dangerous idea. Those who are afflicted with this notion are the first ones to give up their souls, their freedom. Your desire that it be that way will enslave you and make your life vacuous.”

–Cormac McCarthyjcapannoreply@blogger.com
