They have very little to actually gain personally, and very much to lose personally.<BR/><BR/>These people won't actually risk losing all of this. They will avoid political leadership.<BR/><BR/>The lesson, then, is that when the members of Congress are wealthy, comfortable and privileged, they are unwilling to actually engage in anything resembling political leadership. Look at the way Cheney is attacking Senator Reid, for example.<BR/><BR/>Members of Congress should be people who have nothing to lose personally. Then they would be willing to engage in political leadership.<BR/><BR/>If you read the Constitution you see that virtually all of the power of the government that is given to anyone at all is given to the members of Congress. If they did not stand to lose so much personally they would be able to do what the Constitution authorizes them to do.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
